1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord IAUA concerning Edom: We have heard a message from IAUA, and an ambassador is sent among the nations: 'Arise you, and let us rise up against her in battle.' 2 Behold, I make you small among the nations; you are greatly despised. B ANA QTN NThThIK BGUIM BZUI EThA MED ב הנה קטן נתתיך בגוים בזוי אתה מאד
3 The pride of your heart has beguiled you, O you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, your habitation on high; that say in your heart: 'Who shall bring me down to the ground?' 5 If thieves came to you, if robbers by night--how are you cut off!--would they not steal till they had enough? If grape-gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? 7 All the men of your confederacy have conducted you to the border; the men that were at peace with you have beguiled you, and prevailed against you; they that eat your bread lay a snare under you, in whom there is no discernment. 9 Your mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one may be cut off from the mount of Esau by slaughter. T UChThU GBURIK ThIMN LMON IKRTh EISh MAR OShU MQTL ט וחתו גבוריך תימן למען יכרת איש מהר עשו מקטל
10 For the violence done to your brother Jacob shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off for ever. I MChMS EChIK IOQB ThKSK BUShA UNKRTh LOULM י מחמס אחיך יעקב תכסך בושה ונכרת לעולם
11 In the day that you didst stand aloof, in the day that strangers carried away his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even you were as one of them. 12 But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother in the day of his disaster, neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress. 13 You should not have entered into the gate of My people in the day of their calamity; yes, you should not have gazed on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity. 14 Neither should you have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that escape; neither should you have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress. 15 For the day of IAUA is near upon all the nations; as you have done, it shall be done unto you; your dealing shall return upon your own head. TU KI QRUB IUM IAUA OL KL AGUIM KEShR OShITh IOShA LK GMLK IShUB BREShK טו כי קרוב יום יהוה על כל הגוים כאשר עשית יעשה לך גמלך ישוב בראשך
16 For as you have drunk upon My holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually, yes, they shall drink, and swallow down, and shall be as though they had not been. 17 But in mount Zion there shall be those that escape, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. IZ UBAR TsIUN ThAIA FLITA UAIA QDSh UIRShU BITh IOQB ETh MURShIAM יז ובהר ציון תהיה פליטה והיה קדש וירשו בית יעקב את מורשיהם
18 The house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for IAUA has spoken. 19 They of the South shall possess the mount of Esau, and they of the Lowland the Philistines; and they shall possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria; and Benjamin shall possess Gilead. 20 The captivity of this host of the children of Israel, that are among the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath, and the captivity of Jerusalem, that is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the South.
