Nehemiah's Prayer Answered | ||||
| 1 It came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, when wine was before him, that I took up the wine, and gave it to the king. | 2 The king said to me: 'Why is your countenance sad, seeing you are not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart.' | 6 The king said to me, the queen also sitting by him: 'For how long shall your journey be? and when will you return?' | 7 Moreover I said to the king: 'If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the River, that they may let me pass through till I come to Judah; | Z UEUMR LMLK EM-OL-AMLK TUB EGRUTh IThNU-LI OL-FChUUTh OBR ANAR EShR IOBIRUNI OD EShR-EBUE EL-IAUDA | ז ואומר למלך אם-על-המלך טוב אגרות יתנו-לי על-פחוות עבר הנהר אשר יעבירוני עד אשר-אבוא אל-יהודה | ||
| 8 and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king's park, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the castle which appertains to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into.' | 9 Then I came to the governors beyond the River, and gave them the king's letters. | 10 When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly, for that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel. | I UIShMO SNBLT AChRNI UTUBIA AOBD AOMNI UIRO LAM ROA GDLA EShR-BE EDM LBQSh TUBA LBNI IShREL | י וישמע סנבלט החרני וטוביה העבד העמני וירע להם רעה גדלה אשר-בא אדם לבקש טובה לבני ישראל | ||
| 11 So I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days. | IE UEBUE EL-IRUShLM UEAI-ShM IMIM ShLShA | יא ואבוא אל-ירושלם ואהי-שם ימים שלשה | ||
| 12 I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God put into my heart to do for Jerusalem; neither was there any beast with me, save the beast that I rode on. | IB UEQUM LILA ENI UENShIM MOT OMI ULE-AGDThI LEDM MA ELAI NThN EL-LBI LOShUTh LIRUShLM UBAMA EIN OMI KI EM-ABAMA EShR ENI RKB BA | יב ואקום לילה אני ואנשים מעט עמי ולא-הגדתי לאדם מה אלהי נתן אל-לבי לעשות לירושלם ובהמה אין עמי כי אם-הבהמה אשר אני רכב בה | ||

| 18 I told them of the hand of my God which was good on me; as also of the king's words that he had spoken to me. They said: 'Let us rise up and build.' | 19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said: 'What is this thing that you do? will you rebel against the king?' | IT UIShMO SNBLT AChRNI UTBIA AOBD AOMUNI UGShM AORBI UILOGU LNU UIBZU OLINU UIEMRU MA-ADBR AZA EShR EThM OShIM AOL AMLK EThM MRDIM | יט וישמע סנבלט החרני וטביה העבד העמוני וגשם הערבי וילעגו לנו ויבזו עלינו ויאמרו מה-הדבר הזה אשר אתם עשים העל המלך אתם מרדים | ||
