Jephthah the Ninth Judge | ||||

| 4 It came to pass after a while, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel. | D UIAI MIMIM UILChMU BNI-OMUN OM-IShREL | ד ויהי מימים וילחמו בני-עמון עם-ישראל | ||
| 5 It was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob. | A UIAI KEShR-NLChMU BNI-OMUN OM-IShREL UILKU ZQNI GLOD LQChTh ETh-IFThCh MERTs TUB | ה ויהי כאשר-נלחמו בני-עמון עם-ישראל וילכו זקני גלעד לקחת את-יפתח מארץ טוב | ||
| 6 They said to Jephthah: 'Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.' | U UIEMRU LIFThCh LKA UAIIThA LNU LQTsIN UNLChMA BBNI OMUN | ו ויאמרו ליפתח לכה והייתה לנו לקצין ונלחמה בבני עמון | ||

| 10 The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah: 'IAUA shall be witness between us; surely according to your word so will we do.' | I UIEMRU ZQNI-GLOD EL-IFThCh IAUA IAIA ShMO BINUThINU EM-LE KDBRK KN NOShA | י ויאמרו זקני-גלעד אל-יפתח יהוה יהיה שמע בינותינו אם-לא כדברך כן נעשה | ||

| 14 Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon; | ID UIUSF OUD IFThCh UIShLCh MLEKIM EL-MLK BNI OMUN | יד ויוסף עוד יפתח וישלח מלאכים אל-מלך בני עמון | ||
| 15 and he said to him: 'Thus says Jephthah: Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon. | TU UIEMR LU KA EMR IFThCh LE-LQCh IShREL ETh-ERTs MUEB UETh-ERTs BNI OMUN | טו ויאמר לו כה אמר יפתח לא-לקח ישראל את-ארץ מואב ואת-ארץ בני עמון | ||
| 16 But when they came up from Egypt, and Israel walked through the wilderness to the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh; | TZ KI BOLUThM MMTsRIM UILK IShREL BMDBR OD-IM-SUF UIBE QDShA | טז כי בעלותם ממצרים וילך ישראל במדבר עד-ים-סוף ויבא קדשה | ||
| 17 then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying: Let me, I pray you, pass through your land; but the king of Edom hearkened not. | 19 Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him: Let us pass, we pray you, through your land to my place. | IT UIShLCh IShREL MLEKIM EL-SIChUN MLK-AEMRI MLK ChShBUN UIEMR LU IShREL NOBRA-NE BERTsK OD-MQUMI | יט וישלח ישראל מלאכים אל-סיחון מלך-האמרי מלך חשבון ויאמר לו ישראל נעברה-נא בארצך עד-מקומי | ||

| 24 Will not you possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? | 25 Now are you any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them? | KA UOThA ATUB TUB EThA MBLQ BN-TsFUR MLK MUEB ARUB RB OM-IShREL EM-NLChM NLChM BM | כה ועתה הטוב טוב אתה מבלק בן-צפור מלך מואב הרוב רב עם-ישראל אם-נלחם נלחם בם | ||
| 26 While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aroer and its towns, and in all the cities that are along by the side of the Arnon, three hundred years; wherefore did you not recover them within that time? | KU BShBTh IShREL BChShBUN UBBNUThIA UBOROUR UBBNUThIA UBKL-AORIM EShR OL-IDI ERNUN ShLSh MEUTh ShNA UMDUO LE-ATsLThM BOTh AAIE | כו בשבת ישראל בחשבון ובבנותיה ובערעור ובבנותיה ובכל-הערים אשר על-ידי ארנון שלש מאות שנה ומדוע לא-הצלתם בעת ההיא | ||

| 28 Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not to the words of Jephthah which he sent him. | KCh ULE ShMO MLK BNI OMUN EL-DBRI IFThCh EShR ShLCh ELIU | כח ולא שמע מלך בני עמון אל-דברי יפתח אשר שלח אליו | ||

| 30 Jephthah vowed a vow to IAUA, and said: 'If You will indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand, | L UIDR IFThCh NDR LIAUA UIEMR EM-NThUN ThThN ETh-BNI OMUN BIDI | ל וידר יפתח נדר ליהוה ויאמר אם-נתון תתן את-בני עמון בידי | ||
| 31 then it shall be, that whatsoever comes forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, it shall be IAUA'S, and I will offer it up for a burnt-offering.' | LE UAIA AIUTsE EShR ITsE MDLThI BIThI LQREThI BShUBI BShLUM MBNI OMUN UAIA LIAUA UAOLIThIAU OLA | לא והיה היוצא אשר יצא מדלתי ביתי לקראתי בשובי בשלום מבני עמון והיה ליהוה והעליתיהו עלה | ||
| 32 So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and IAUA delivered them into his hand. | LB UIOBR IFThCh EL-BNI OMUN LALChM BM UIThNM IAUA BIDU | לב ויעבר יפתח אל-בני עמון להלחם בם ויתנם יהוה בידו | ||
| 33 He smote them from Aroer until you come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and to Abel-cheramim, with a very great slaughter. | 38 He said: 'Go.' | 39 It came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed; and she had not known man.
