Job's Lament

2 {S} Job spoke, and said: B UION EIUB UIEMR ב ויען איוב ויאמר
3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night wherein it was said: 'A man-child is brought forth.' G IEBD IUM EULD BU UALILA EMR ARA GBR ג יאבד יום אולד בו והלילה אמר הרה גבר
4 Let that day be darkness; {N}let not God inquire after it from above, neither let the light shine upon it. D AIUM AAUE IAI ChShKEL IDRShAU ELUA MMOL UEL ThUFO OLIU NARA ד היום ההוא יהי חשךאל ידרשהו אלוה ממעל ואל תופע עליו נהרה
5 Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own; let a cloud dwell upon it; let all that makes black the day terrify it. A IGELAU ChShK UTsLMUTh ThShKN OLIU ONNA IBOThAU KMRIRI IUM ה יגאלהו חשך וצלמות תשכן עליו עננה יבעתהו כמרירי יום
6 As for that night, let thick darkness seize upon it; {N}let it not rejoice among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months. U ALILA AAUE IQChAU EFLEL IChD BIMI ShNA BMSFR IRChIM EL IBE ו הלילה ההוא יקחהו אפלאל יחד בימי שנה במספר ירחים אל יבא
7 Lo, let that night be desolate; let no joyful voice come therein. Z ANA ALILA AAUE IAI GLMUD EL ThBUE RNNA BU ז הנה הלילה ההוא יהי גלמוד אל תבוא רננה בו
8 Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan. Ch IQBAU ERRI IUM AOThIDIM ORR LUIThN ח יקבהו אררי יום העתידים ערר לויתן
9 Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it behold the eyelids of the morning; T IChShKU KUKBI NShFU IQU LEUR UEIN UEL IREA BOFOFI ShChR ט יחשכו כוכבי נשפו יקו לאור ואין ואל יראה בעפעפי שחר
10 Because it shut not up the doors of my [mother's] womb, nor hid trouble from mine eyes. I KI LE SGR DLThI BTNI UISThR OML MOINI י כי לא סגר דלתי בטני ויסתר עמל מעיני
11 Why died I not from the womb? Why did I not perish at birth? IE LMA LE MRChM EMUTh MBTN ITsEThI UEGUO יא למה לא מרחם אמות מבטן יצאתי ואגוע
12 Why did the knees receive me? Wherefore the breasts, that I should suck? IB MDUO QDMUNI BRKIM UMA ShDIM KI EINQ יב מדוע קדמוני ברכים ומה שדים כי אינק
13 For now should I have lain still and been quiet; I should have slept; then had I been at rest-- IG KI OThA ShKBThI UEShQUT IShNThI EZ INUCh LI יג כי עתה שכבתי ואשקוט ישנתי אז ינוח לי
14 With kings and counsellors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves; ID OM MLKIM UIOTsI ERTs ABNIM ChRBUTh LMU יד עם מלכים ויעצי ארץ הבנים חרבות למו
15 Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver; TU EU OM ShRIM ZAB LAM AMMLEIM BThIAM KSF טו או עם שרים זהב להם הממלאים בתיהם כסף
16 Or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants that never saw light. TZ EU KNFL TMUN LE EAIA KOLLIM LE REU EUR טז או כנפל טמון לא אהיה כעללים לא ראו אור
17 There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary are at rest. IZ ShM RShOIM ChDLU RGZ UShM INUChU IGIOI KCh יז שם רשעים חדלו רגז ושם ינוחו יגיעי כח
18 There the prisoners are at ease together; they hear not the voice of the taskmaster. ICh IChD ESIRIM ShENNU LE ShMOU QUL NGSh יח יחד אסירים שאננו לא שמעו קול נגש
19 The small and great are there alike; and the servant is free from his master. IT QTN UGDUL ShM AUE UOBD ChFShI MEDNIU יט קטן וגדול שם הוא ועבד חפשי מאדניו
20 Wherewith is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul-- K LMA IThN LOML EUR UChIIM LMRI NFSh כ למה יתן לעמל אור וחיים למרי נפש
21 Who long for death, but it comes not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures; KE AMChKIM LMUTh UEINNU UIChFRAU MMTMUNIM כא המחכים למות ואיננו ויחפרהו ממטמונים
22 Who rejoice unto exultation, and are glad, when they can find the grave?-- KB AShMChIM ELI GIL IShIShU KI IMTsEU QBR כב השמחים אלי גיל ישישו כי ימצאו קבר
23 To a man whose way is hid, and whom God has hedged in? KG LGBR EShR DRKU NSThRA UISK ELUA BODU כג לגבר אשר דרכו נסתרה ויסך אלוה בעדו
24 For my sighing comes instead of my food, and my roarings are poured out like water. KD KI LFNI LChMI ENChThI ThBE UIThKU KMIM ShEGThI כד כי לפני לחמי אנחתי תבא ויתכו כמים שאגתי
25 For the thing which I did fear is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of has overtaken me. KA KI FChD FChDThI UIEThINI UEShR IGRThI IBE LI כה כי פחד פחדתי ויאתיני ואשר יגרתי יבא לי
26 I was not at ease, neither was I quiet, neither had I rest; but trouble came. KU LE ShLUThI ULE ShQTThI ULE NChThI UIBE RGZ כו לא שלותי ולא שקטתי ולא נחתי ויבא רגז
