Haggai Begins Temple Building

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of IAUA by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying:

You looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I did blow on it. Why? says IAUA of hosts. Because of My house that lays waste, while you run every man for his own house.

Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, hearkened to the voice of IAUA their God, and to the words of Haggai the prophet, as IAUA their God had sent him; and the people did fear before IAUA.
