The Death of Israel

5 My father made me swear, saying: Lo, I die; in my grave which I have dug for me in the land of Canaan, there shall you bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray you, and bury my father, and I will come back.' 7 Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, Z UIOL IUSF LQBR ETh EBIU UIOLU EThU KL OBDI FROA ZQNI BIThU UKL ZQNI ERTs MTsRIM ז ויעל יוסף לקבר את אביו ויעלו אתו כל עבדי פרעה זקני ביתו וכל זקני ארץ מצרים

10 They came to the threshing-floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and there they wailed with a very great and sore wailing; and he made a mourning for his father seven days. 11 When the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said: 'This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians.' Wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond the Jordan. 13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field, for a possession of a burying-place, of Ephron the Hittite, in front of Mamre. 15 When Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said: 'It may be that Joseph will hate us, and will fully requite us all the evil which we did unto him.' 16 They sent a message unto Joseph, saying: 'Your father did command before he died, saying: TZ UITsUU EL IUSF LEMR EBIK TsUA LFNI MUThU LEMR טז ויצוו אל יוסף לאמר אביך צוה לפני מותו לאמר
17 So shall you say unto Joseph: Forgive, I pray you now, the transgression of your brethren, and their sin, for that they did unto you evil. Now, we pray you, forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.' Joseph wept when they spoke unto him. 18 His brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said: 'Behold, we are your bondmen.' ICh UILKU GM EChIU UIFLU LFNIU UIEMRU ANNU LK LOBDIM יח וילכו גם אחיו ויפלו לפניו ויאמרו הננו לך לעבדים
19 Joseph said unto them: 'Fear not; for am I in the place of God? IT UIEMR ELAM IUSF EL ThIREU KI AThChTh ELAIM ENI יט ויאמר אלהם יוסף אל תיראו כי התחת אלהים אני
20 As for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. K UEThM ChShBThM OLI ROA ELAIM ChShBA LTBA LMON OShA KIUM AZA LAChITh OM RB כ ואתם חשבתם עלי רעה אלהים חשבה לטבה למען עשה כיום הזה להחית עם רב
21 Now therefore fear you not; I will sustain you, and your little ones.' He comforted them, and spoke kindly unto them. KE UOThA EL ThIREU ENKI EKLKL EThKM UETh TFKM UINChM EUThM UIDBR OL LBM כא ועתה אל תיראו אנכי אכלכל אתכם ואת טפכם וינחם אותם וידבר על לבם

23 Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation; the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were born upon Joseph's knees. KG UIRE IUSF LEFRIM BNI ShLShIM GM BNI MKIR BN MNShA ILDU OL BRKI IUSF כג וירא יוסף לאפרים בני שלשים גם בני מכיר בן מנשה ילדו על ברכי יוסף
24 Joseph said unto his brethren: 'I die; but God will surely remember you, and bring you up out of this land unto the land which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.'
