Joseph's Success in Egypt
1 Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hand of the Ishmaelites, that had brought him down thither. 2 IAUA was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. B UIAI IAUA ETh IUSF UIAI EISh MTsLICh UIAI BBITh EDNIU AMTsRI ב ויהי יהוה את יוסף ויהי איש מצליח ויהי בבית אדניו המצרי
3 His master saw that IAUA was with him, and that IAUA made all that he did to prosper in his hand. G UIRE EDNIU KI IAUA EThU UKL EShR AUE OShA IAUA MTsLICh BIDU ג וירא אדניו כי יהוה אתו וכל אשר הוא עשה יהוה מצליח בידו
4 Joseph found favor in his sight, and he ministered unto him. He appointed him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. D UIMTsE IUSF ChN BOINIU UIShRTh EThU UIFQDAU OL BIThU UKL ISh LU NThN BIDU ד וימצא יוסף חן בעיניו וישרת אתו ויפקדהו על ביתו וכל יש לו נתן בידו
5 It came to pass from the time that he appointed him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that IAUA blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of IAUA was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field. 6 He left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and, having him, he knew not aught save the bread which he did eat. Joseph was of beautiful form, and fair to look upon. 7 It came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said: 'Lie with me.' Z UIAI EChR ADBRIM AELA UThShE EShTh EDNIU ETh OINIA EL IUSF UThEMR ShKBA OMI ז ויהי אחר הדברים האלה ותשא אשת אדניו את עיניה אל יוסף ותאמר שכבה עמי
8 But he refused, and said unto his master's wife: 'Behold, my master, having me, knows not what is in the house, and he has put all that he has into my hand; Ch UIMEN UIEMR EL EShTh EDNIU AN EDNI LE IDO EThI MA BBITh UKL EShR ISh LU NThN BIDI ח וימאן ויאמר אל אשת אדניו הן אדני לא ידע אתי מה בבית וכל אשר יש לו נתן בידי
9 he is not greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back any thing from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?' 10 It came to pass, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. I UIAI KDBRA EL IUSF IUM IUM ULE ShMO ELIA LShKB ETsLA LAIUTh OMA י ויהי כדברה אל יוסף יום יום ולא שמע אליה לשכב אצלה להיות עמה
11 It came to pass on a certain day, when he went into the house to do his work, and there was none of the men of the house there within, IE UIAI KAIUM AZA UIBE ABIThA LOShUTh MLEKThU UEIN EISh MENShI ABITh ShM BBITh יא ויהי כהיום הזה ויבא הביתה לעשות מלאכתו ואין איש מאנשי הבית שם בבית
12 that she caught him by his garment, saying: 'Lie with me.' He left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. IB UThThFShAU BBGDU LEMR ShKBA OMI UIOZB BGDU BIDA UINS UITsE AChUTsA יב ותתפשהו בבגדו לאמר שכבה עמי ויעזב בגדו בידה וינס ויצא החוצה
13 It came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth, IG UIAI KREUThA KI OZB BGDU BIDA UINS AChUTsA יג ויהי כראותה כי עזב בגדו בידה וינס החוצה
14 that she called unto the men of her house, and spoke unto them, saying: 'See, he has brought in a Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice. ID UThQRE LENShI BIThA UThEMR LAM LEMR REU ABIE LNU EISh OBRI LTsChQ BNU BE ELI LShKB OMI UEQRE BQUL GDUL יד ותקרא לאנשי ביתה ותאמר להם לאמר ראו הביא לנו איש עברי לצחק בנו בא אלי לשכב עמי ואקרא בקול גדול
15 It came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled, and got him out.' TU UIAI KShMOU KI ARIMThI QULI UEQRE UIOZB BGDU ETsLI UINS UITsE AChUTsA טו ויהי כשמעו כי הרימתי קולי ואקרא ויעזב בגדו אצלי וינס ויצא החוצה
16 She laid up his garment by her, until his master came home. TZ UThNCh BGDU ETsLA OD BUE EDNIU EL BIThU טז ותנח בגדו אצלה עד בוא אדניו אל ביתו
17 She spoke unto him according to these words, saying: 'The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me. IZ UThDBR ELIU KDBRIM AELA LEMR BE ELI AOBD AOBRI EShR ABETh LNU LTsChQ BI יז ותדבר אליו כדברים האלה לאמר בא אלי העבד העברי אשר הבאת לנו לצחק בי
18 It came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled out.' ICh UIAI KARIMI QULI UEQRE UIOZB BGDU ETsLI UINS AChUTsA יח ויהי כהרימי קולי ואקרא ויעזב בגדו אצלי וינס החוצה
19 It came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke unto him, saying: 'After this manner did your servant to me'; that his wrath was kindled. IT UIAI KShMO EDNIU ETh DBRI EShThU EShR DBRA ELIU LEMR KDBRIM AELA OShA LI OBDK UIChR EFU יט ויהי כשמע אדניו את דברי אשתו אשר דברה אליו לאמר כדברים האלה עשה לי עבדך ויחר אפו
20 Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were bound; and he was there in the prison. K UIQCh EDNI IUSF EThU UIThNAU EL BITh ASAR MQUM EShR ESURI (ESIRI) AMLK ESURIM UIAI ShM BBITh ASAR כ ויקח אדני יוסף אתו ויתנהו אל בית הסהר מקום אשר אסורי (אסירי) המלך אסורים ויהי שם בבית הסהר
21 But IAUA was with Joseph, and showed kindness unto him, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. KE UIAI IAUA ETh IUSF UIT ELIU ChSD UIThN ChNU BOINI ShR BITh ASAR כא ויהי יהוה את יוסף ויט אליו חסד ויתן חנו בעיני שר בית הסהר
22 The keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it. KB UIThN ShR BITh ASAR BID IUSF ETh KL AESIRM EShR BBITh ASAR UETh KL EShR OShIM ShM AUE AIA OShA כב ויתן שר בית הסהר ביד יוסף את כל האסירם אשר בבית הסהר ואת כל אשר עשים שם הוא היה עשה
23 The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand, because IAUA was with him; and that which he did, IAUA made it to prosper. {P} KG EIN ShR BITh ASAR REA ETh KL MEUMA BIDU BEShR IAUA EThU UEShR AUE OShA IAUA MTsLICh {F} כג אין שר בית הסהר ראה את כל מאומה בידו באשר יהוה אתו ואשר הוא עשה יהוה מצליח {פ}

Joseph's Success in Egypt

14 that she called unto the men of her house, and spoke unto them, saying: 'See, he has brought in a Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice.
