Wanderings in the Wilderness
1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as IAUA spoke unto me; and we compassed mount Seir many days. {S} E UNFN UNSO AMDBRA DRK IM SUF KEShR DBR IAUA ELI UNSB ETh AR ShOIR IMIM RBIM {S} א ונפן ונסע המדברה דרך ים סוף כאשר דבר יהוה אלי ונסב את הר שעיר ימים רבים {ס}
2 IAUA spoke unto me, saying: B UIEMR IAUA ELI LEMR ב ויאמר יהוה אלי לאמר
3 'You have compassed this mountain long enough; turn you northward. G RB LKM SB ETh AAR AZA FNU LKM TsFNA ג רב לכם סב את ההר הזה פנו לכם צפנה
4 Command you the people, saying: You are to pass through the border of your brethren the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you; take you good heed unto yourselves therefore; D UETh AOM TsU LEMR EThM OBRIM BGBUL EChIKM BNI OShU AIShBIM BShOIR UIIREU MKM UNShMRThM MED ד ואת העם צו לאמר אתם עברים בגבול אחיכם בני עשו הישבים בשעיר וייראו מכם ונשמרתם מאד
5 contend not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession. 6 You shall purchase food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water of them for money, that you may drink. U EKL ThShBRU METhM BKSF UEKLThM UGM MIM ThKRU METhM BKSF UShThIThM ו אכל תשברו מאתם בכסף ואכלתם וגם מים תכרו מאתם בכסף ושתיתם
7 For IAUA your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand; He has known your walking through this great wilderness; these forty years IAUA your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.' 8 So we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah, from Elath and from Ezion-geber. {S} We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab. 9 IAUA said unto me: 'Be not at enmity with Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.-- T UIEMR IAUA ELI EL ThTsR ETh MUEB UEL ThThGR BM MLChMA KI LE EThN LK MERTsU IRShA KI LBNI LUT NThThI ETh OR IRShA ט ויאמר יהוה אלי אל תצר את מואב ואל תתגר בם מלחמה כי לא אתן לך מארצו ירשה כי לבני לוט נתתי את ער ירשה
10 The Emim dwelt therein aforetime, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; I AEMIM LFNIM IShBU BA OM GDUL URB URM KONQIM י האמים לפנים ישבו בה עם גדול ורב ורם כענקים
11 these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim. IE RFEIM IChShBU EF AM KONQIM UAMEBIM IQREU LAM EMIM יא רפאים יחשבו אף הם כענקים והמאבים יקראו להם אמים
12 In Seir dwelt the Horites aforetime, but the children of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which IAUA gave unto them.-- IB UBShOIR IShBU AChRIM LFNIM UBNI OShU IIRShUM UIShMIDUM MFNIAM UIShBU ThChThM KEShR OShA IShREL LERTs IRShThU EShR NThN IAUA LAM יב ובשעיר ישבו החרים לפנים ובני עשו יירשום וישמידום מפניהם וישבו תחתם כאשר עשה ישראל לארץ ירשתו אשר נתן יהוה להם
13 Now rise up, and get you over the brook Zered.' We went over the brook Zered. IG OThA QMU UOBRU LKM ETh NChL ZRD UNOBR ETh NChL ZRD יג עתה קמו ועברו לכם את נחל זרד ונעבר את נחל זרד
14 The days in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, were thirty and eight years; until all the generation, even the men of war, were consumed from the middle of the camp, as IAUA swore unto them. ID UAIMIM EShR ALKNU MQDSh BRNO OD EShR OBRNU ETh NChL ZRD ShLShIM UShMNA ShNA OD ThM KL ADUR ENShI AMLChMA MQRB AMChNA KEShR NShBO IAUA LAM יד והימים אשר הלכנו מקדש ברנע עד אשר עברנו את נחל זרד שלשים ושמנה שנה עד תם כל הדור אנשי המלחמה מקרב המחנה כאשר נשבע יהוה להם
15 Moreover the hand of IAUA was against them, to discomfit them from the middle of the camp, until they were consumed. TU UGM ID IAUA AIThA BM LAMM MQRB AMChNA OD ThMM טו וגם יד יהוה היתה בם להמם מקרב המחנה עד תמם
16 So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people, {S} TZ UIAI KEShR ThMU KL ENShI AMLChMA LMUTh MQRB AOM {S} טז ויהי כאשר תמו כל אנשי המלחמה למות מקרב העם {ס}
17 that IAUA spoke unto me saying: IZ UIDBR IAUA ELI LEMR יז וידבר יהוה אלי לאמר
18 'You are this day to pass over the border of Moab, even Ar; ICh EThA OBR AIUM ETh GBUL MUEB ETh OR יח אתה עבר היום את גבול מואב את ער
19 and when you come nigh over against the children of Ammon, harass them not, nor contend with them; for I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.-- IT UQRBTh MUL BNI OMUN EL ThTsRM UEL ThThGR BM KI LE EThN MERTs BNI OMUN LK IRShA KI LBNI LUT NThThIA IRShA יט וקרבת מול בני עמון אל תצרם ואל תתגר בם כי לא אתן מארץ בני עמון לך ירשה כי לבני לוט נתתיה ירשה
20 That also is accounted a land of Rephaim: Rephaim dwelt therein aforetime; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim, K ERTs RFEIM ThChShB EF AUE RFEIM IShBU BA LFNIM UAOMNIM IQREU LAM ZMZMIM כ ארץ רפאים תחשב אף הוא רפאים ישבו בה לפנים והעמנים יקראו להם זמזמים
21 a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; but IAUA destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead; KE OM GDUL URB URM KONQIM UIShMIDM IAUA MFNIAM UIIRShM UIShBU ThChThM כא עם גדול ורב ורם כענקים וישמידם יהוה מפניהם ויירשם וישבו תחתם
22 as He did for the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day; KB KEShR OShA LBNI OShU AIShBIM BShOIR EShR AShMID ETh AChRI MFNIAM UIIRShM UIShBU ThChThM OD AIUM AZA כב כאשר עשה לבני עשו הישבים בשעיר אשר השמיד את החרי מפניהם ויירשם וישבו תחתם עד היום הזה
23 and the Avvim, that dwelt in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, that came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.-- KG UAOUIM AIShBIM BChTsRIM OD OZA KFThRIM AITsEIM MKFThR AShMIDM UIShBU ThChThM כג והעוים הישבים בחצרים עד עזה כפתרים היצאים מכפתר השמידם וישבו תחתם
24 Rise you up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of Arnon; behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. 25 This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you upon the peoples that are under the whole heaven, who, when they hear the report of you, shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.' KA AIUM AZA EChL ThTh FChDK UIREThK OL FNI AOMIM ThChTh KL AShMIM EShR IShMOUN ShMOK URGZU UChLU MFNIK כה היום הזה אחל תת פחדך ויראתך על פני העמים תחת כל השמים אשר ישמעון שמעך ורגזו וחלו מפניך
26 I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying: KU UEShLCh MLEKIM MMDBR QDMUTh EL SIChUN MLK ChShBUN DBRI ShLUM LEMR כו ואשלח מלאכים ממדבר קדמות אל סיחון מלך חשבון דברי שלום לאמר
27 'Let me pass through your land; I will go along by the highway, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left. KZ EOBRA BERTsK BDRK BDRK ELK LE ESUR IMIN UShMEUL כז אעברה בארצך בדרך בדרך אלך לא אסור ימין ושמאול
28 You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink; only let me pass through on my feet; KCh EKL BKSF ThShBRNI UEKLThI UMIM BKSF ThThN LI UShThIThI RQ EOBRA BRGLI כח אכל בכסף תשברני ואכלתי ומים בכסף תתן לי ושתיתי רק אעברה ברגלי
29 as the children of Esau that dwell in Seir, and the Moabites that dwell in Ar, did unto me; until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which IAUA our God gives us.' KT KEShR OShU LI BNI OShU AIShBIM BShOIR UAMUEBIM AIShBIM BOR OD EShR EOBR ETh AIRDN EL AERTs EShR IAUA ELAINU NThN LNU כט כאשר עשו לי בני עשו הישבים בשעיר והמואבים הישבים בער עד אשר אעבר את הירדן אל הארץ אשר יהוה אלהינו נתן לנו
30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for IAUA your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as appears this day. {S} L ULE EBA SIChN MLK ChShBUN AOBRNU BU KI AQShA IAUA ELAIK ETh RUChU UEMTs ETh LBBU LMON ThThU BIDK KIUM AZA {S} ל ולא אבה סיחן מלך חשבון העברנו בו כי הקשה יהוה אלהיך את רוחו ואמץ את לבבו למען תתו בידך כיום הזה {ס}
31 IAUA said unto me: 'Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you; begin to possess his land.' LE UIEMR IAUA ELI REA AChLThI ThTh LFNIK ETh SIChN UETh ERTsU AChL RSh LRShTh ETh ERTsU לא ויאמר יהוה אלי ראה החלתי תת לפניך את סיחן ואת ארצו החל רש לרשת את ארצו
32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, unto battle at Jahaz. LB UITsE SIChN LQREThNU AUE UKL OMU LMLChMA IATsA לב ויצא סיחן לקראתנו הוא וכל עמו למלחמה יהצה
33 IAUA our God delivered him up before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people. LG UIThNAU IAUA ELAINU LFNINU UNK EThU UETh BNU UETh KL OMU לג ויתנהו יהוה אלהינו לפנינו ונך אתו ואת בנו ואת כל עמו
34 We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every city, the men, and the women, and the little ones; we left none remaining; LD UNLKD ETh KL ORIU BOTh AAUE UNChRM ETh KL OIR MThM UANShIM UATF LE AShERNU ShRID לד ונלכד את כל עריו בעת ההוא ונחרם את כל עיר מתם והנשים והטף לא השארנו שריד
35 only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, with the spoil of the cities which we had taken. LA RQ ABAMA BZZNU LNU UShLL AORIM EShR LKDNU לה רק הבהמה בזזנו לנו ושלל הערים אשר לכדנו
36 From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon, and from the city that is in the valley, even unto Gilead, there was not a city too high for us: IAUA our God delivered up all before us. LU MOROR EShR OL ShFTh NChL ERNN UAOIR EShR BNChL UOD AGLOD LE AIThA QRIA EShR ShGBA MMNU ETh AKL NThN IAUA ELAINU LFNINU לו מערער אשר על שפת נחל ארנן והעיר אשר בנחל ועד הגלעד לא היתה קריה אשר שגבה ממנו את הכל נתן יהוה אלהינו לפנינו
37 Only to the land of the children of Ammon you came not near; all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill-country, and wheresoever IAUA our God forbade us.
