'Seek Me that You May Live'
1 Hear you this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel: E ShMOU ETh-ADBR AZA EShR ENKI NShE OLIKM QINA BITh IShREL א שמעו את-הדבר הזה אשר אנכי נשא עליכם קינה בית ישראל

3 For thus says the Lord IAUA: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, of the house of Israel. 4 For thus says IAUA to the house of Israel: Seek you Me, and live; D KI KA EMR IAUA LBITh IShREL DRShUNI UChIU ד כי כה אמר יהוה לבית ישראל דרשוני וחיו
5 But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought. 6 Seek IAUA, and live--unless He break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be none to quench it in Bethel-- U DRShU ETh-IAUA UChIU FN-ITsLCh KESh BITh IUSF UEKLA UEIN-MKBA LBITh-EL ו דרשו את-יהוה וחיו פן-יצלח כאש בית יוסף ואכלה ואין-מכבה לבית-אל
7 You who turn judgment to wormwood, and cast righteousness to the ground; Z AAFKIM LLONA MShFT UTsDQA LERTs ANIChU ז ההפכים ללענה משפט וצדקה לארץ הניחו
8 Him that makes the Pleiades and Orion, and brings on the shadow of death in the morning, and darkens the day into night; that calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the face of the earth; IAUA is His name; Ch OShA KIMA UKSIL UAFK LBQR TsLMUTh UIUM LILA AChShIK AQURE LMI-AIM UIShFKM OL-FNI AERTs IAUA ShMU ח עשה כימה וכסיל והפך לבקר צלמות ויום לילה החשיך הקורא למי-הים וישפכם על-פני הארץ יהוה שמו
9 That causes destruction to flash on the strong, so that destruction comes on the fortress. T AMBLIG ShD OL-OZ UShD OL-MBTsR IBUE ט המבליג שד על-עז ושד על-מבצר יבוא
10 They hate him that reproves in the gate, and they abhor him that speaks uprightly. I ShNEU BShOR MUKICh UDBR ThMIM IThOBU י שנאו בשער מוכיח ודבר תמים יתעבו
11 Therefore, because you trample on the poor, and take from him exactions of wheat; you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them, you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink wine thereof. 12 For I know how manifold are your transgressions, and how mighty are your sins; you that afflict the just, that take a ransom, and that turn aside the needy in the gate. 14 Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so IAUA, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you say. ID DRShU-TUB UEL-RO LMON ThChIU UIAI-KN IAUA ELAI-TsBEUTh EThKM KEShR EMRThM יד דרשו-טוב ואל-רע למען תחיו ויהי-כן יהוה אלהי-צבאות אתכם כאשר אמרתם
15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that IAUA, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph. 16 Therefore thus says IAUA, the God of hosts, the Lord: Lamentation shall be in all the broad places, and they shall say in all the streets: 'Alas! alas!' and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and proclaim lamentation to such as are skilful of wailing. 18 Woe to you that desire the day of IAUA! Wherefore would you have the day of IAUA? It is darkness, and not light. ICh AUI AMThEUIM ETh-IUM IAUA LMA-ZA LKM IUM IAUA AUE-ChShK ULE-EUR יח הוי המתאוים את-יום יהוה למה-זה לכם יום יהוה הוא-חשך ולא-אור
19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; and went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. IT KEShR INUS EISh MFNI AERI UFGOU ADB UBE ABITh USMK IDU OL-AQIR UNShKU ANChSh יט כאשר ינוס איש מפני הארי ופגעו הדב ובא הבית וסמך ידו על-הקיר ונשכו הנחש
20 Shall not the day of IAUA be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it? K ALE-ChShK IUM IAUA ULE-EUR UEFL ULE-NGA LU כ הלא-חשך יום יהוה ולא-אור ואפל ולא-נגה לו
21 I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will take no delight in your solemn assemblies. KE ShNEThI MESThI ChGIKM ULE ERICh BOTsRThIKM כא שנאתי מאסתי חגיכם ולא אריח בעצרתיכם
22 Yes, though you offer me burnt-offerings and your meal-offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fat beasts. KB KI EM-ThOLU-LI OLUTh UMNChThIKM LE ERTsA UShLM MRIEIKM LE EBIT כב כי אם-תעלו-לי עלות ומנחתיכם לא ארצה ושלם מריאיכם לא אביט
23 Take you away from Me the noise of your songs; and let Me not hear the melody of your psalteries. KG ASR MOLI AMUN ShRIK UZMRTh NBLIK LE EShMO כג הסר מעלי המון שריך וזמרת נבליך לא אשמע

25 Did you bring to Me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? KA AZBChIM UMNChA AGShThM-LI BMDBR ERBOIM ShNA BITh IShREL כה הזבחים ומנחה הגשתם-לי במדבר ארבעים שנה בית ישראל
26 So shall you take up Siccuth your king and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which you made to yourselves. KU UNShEThM ETh SKUTh MLKKM UETh KIUN TsLMIKM KUKB ELAIKM EShR OShIThM LKM כו ונשאתם את סכות מלככם ואת כיון צלמיכם כוכב אלהיכם אשר עשיתם לכם

'Seek Me that You May Live'

5 But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought.
