Elijah Taken to Heaven

2 Elijah said unto Elisha: 'Tarry here, I pray you; for IAUA has sent me as far as Beth-el.' Elisha said: 'As IAUA lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.' 3 The sons of the prophets that were at Beth-el came forth to Elisha, and said unto him: 'Know you that IAUA will take away your master from your head to-day?' 4 Elijah said unto him: 'Elisha, tarry here, I pray you; for IAUA has sent me to Jericho.' He said: 'As IAUA lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.' 5 The sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came near to Elisha, and said unto him: 'Know you that IAUA will take away your master from your head to-day?' 6 Elijah said unto him: 'Tarry here, I pray you; for IAUA has sent me to the Jordan.' He said: 'As IAUA lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.' They two went on. 7 Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood over against them afar off; and they two stood by the Jordan. Z UChMShIM EISh MBNI ANBIEIM ALKU UIOMDU MNGD MRChUQ UShNIAM OMDU OL AIRDN ז וחמשים איש מבני הנביאים הלכו ויעמדו מנגד מרחוק ושניהם עמדו על הירדן
8 Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground. 9 It came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha: 'Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.' Elisha said: 'I pray you, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.' 10 He said: 'You have asked a hard thing; nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so unto you; but if not, it shall not be so.' I UIEMR AQShITh LShEUL EM ThREA EThI LQCh METhK IAI LK KN UEM EIN LE IAIA י ויאמר הקשית לשאול אם תראה אתי לקח מאתך יהי לך כן ואם אין לא יהיה
11 It came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which parted them both assunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 Elisha saw it, and he cried: 'My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen thereof!' He saw him no more; and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces. 14 He took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said: 'Where is IAUA, the God of Elijah?' and when he also had smitten the waters, they were divided hither and thither; and Elisha went over. 15 When the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho some way off saw him, they said: 'The spirit of Elijah does rest on Elisha.' They came to meet him, and bowed down to the ground before him. 16 They said unto him: 'Behold now, there are with your servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray you, and seek your master; unless peradventure the spirit of IAUA has taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley.' He said: 'You shall not send.' 17 When they urged him till he was ashamed, he said: 'Send.' They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not. IZ UIFTsRU BU OD BSh UIEMR ShLChU UIShLChU ChMShIM EISh UIBQShU ShLShA IMIM ULE MTsEAU יז ויפצרו בו עד בש ויאמר שלחו וישלחו חמשים איש ויבקשו שלשה ימים ולא מצאהו
18 They came back to him, while he tarried at Jericho; and he said unto them: 'Did I not say unto you: Go not?' {S} ICh UIShBU ELIU UAUE IShB BIRIChU UIEMR ELAM ALE EMRThI ELIKM EL ThLKU {S} יח וישבו אליו והוא ישב ביריחו ויאמר אלהם הלא אמרתי אליכם אל תלכו {ס}
19 The men of the city said unto Elisha: 'Behold, we pray you, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land miscarries. IT UIEMRU ENShI AOIR EL ELIShO ANA NE MUShB AOIR TUB KEShR EDNI REA UAMIM ROIM UAERTs MShKLTh יט ויאמרו אנשי העיר אל אלישע הנה נא מושב העיר טוב כאשר אדני ראה והמים רעים והארץ משכלת
20 He said: 'Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein.' They brought it to him. K UIEMR QChU LI TsLChITh ChDShA UShIMU ShM MLCh UIQChU ELIU כ ויאמר קחו לי צלחית חדשה ושימו שם מלח ויקחו אליו
21 He went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast salt therein, and said: 'Thus says IAUA: I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or miscarrying.' KE UITsE EL MUTsE AMIM UIShLK ShM MLCh UIEMR KA EMR IAUA RFEThI LMIM AELA LE IAIA MShM OUD MUTh UMShKLTh כא ויצא אל מוצא המים וישלך שם מלח ויאמר כה אמר יהוה רפאתי למים האלה לא יהיה משם עוד מות ומשכלת
22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke. {P} KB UIRFU AMIM OD AIUM AZA KDBR ELIShO EShR DBR {F} כב וירפו המים עד היום הזה כדבר אלישע אשר דבר {פ}
23 He went up from thence unto Beth-el; and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him: 'Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead.' KG UIOL MShM BITh EL UAUE OLA BDRK UNORIM QTNIM ITsEU MN AOIR UIThQLSU BU UIEMRU LU OLA QRCh OLA QRCh כג ויעל משם בית אל והוא עלה בדרך ונערים קטנים יצאו מן העיר ויתקלסו בו ויאמרו לו עלה קרח עלה קרח
24 He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of IAUA. There came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tore forty and two children of them.
