Isaiah Encourages Hezekiah
1 It came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of IAUA. E UIAI KShMO AMLK ChZQIAU UIQRO ETh BGDIU UIThKS BShQ UIBE BITh IAUA א ויהי כשמע המלך חזקיהו ויקרע את בגדיו ויתכס בשק ויבא בית יהוה
2 He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. 3 They said unto him: 'Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of contumely; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth. 4 It may be IAUA your God will hear all the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to taunt the living God, and will rebuke the words which IAUA your God has heard; wherefore make prayer for the remnant that is left.' 5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah. A UIBEU OBDI AMLK ChZQIAU EL IShOIAU ה ויבאו עבדי המלך חזקיהו אל ישעיהו
6 Isaiah said unto them: 'Thus shall you say to your master: Thus says IAUA: Be not afraid of the words that you have heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me. U UIEMR LAM IShOIAU KA ThEMRUN EL EDNIKM KA EMR IAUA EL ThIRE MFNI ADBRIM EShR ShMOTh EShR GDFU NORI MLK EShUR EThI ו ויאמר להם ישעיהו כה תאמרון אל אדניכם כה אמר יהוה אל תירא מפני הדברים אשר שמעת אשר גדפו נערי מלך אשור אתי
7 Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.' Z ANNI NThN BU RUCh UShMO ShMUOA UShB LERTsU UAFLThIU BChRB BERTsU ז הנני נתן בו רוח ושמע שמועה ושב לארצו והפלתיו בחרב בארצו
8 So Rab-shakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish. Ch UIShB RBShQA UIMTsE ETh MLK EShUR NLChM OL LBNA KI ShMO KI NSO MLKISh ח וישב רבשקה וימצא את מלך אשור נלחם על לבנה כי שמע כי נסע מלכיש
9 When he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia: 'Behold, he is come out to fight against you'; he sent messengers again unto Hezekiah, saying: T UIShMO EL ThRAQA MLK KUSh LEMR ANA ITsE LALChM EThK UIShB UIShLCh MLEKIM EL ChZQIAU LEMR ט וישמע אל תרהקה מלך כוש לאמר הנה יצא להלחם אתך וישב וישלח מלאכים אל חזקיהו לאמר
10 'Thus shall you speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying: Let not your God in whom you trust beguile you, saying: Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. I KA ThEMRUN EL ChZQIAU MLK IAUDA LEMR EL IShEK ELAIK EShR EThA BTCh BU LEMR LE ThNThN IRUShLM BID MLK EShUR י כה תאמרון אל חזקיהו מלך יהודה לאמר אל ישאך אלהיך אשר אתה בטח בו לאמר לא תנתן ירושלם ביד מלך אשור
11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly; and shall you be delivered? IE ANA EThA ShMOTh ETh EShR OShU MLKI EShUR LKL AERTsUTh LAChRIMM UEThA ThNTsL יא הנה אתה שמעת את אשר עשו מלכי אשור לכל הארצות להחרימם ואתה תנצל
12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Telassar? IB AATsILU EThM ELAI AGUIM EShR ShChThU EBUThI ETh GUZN UETh ChRN URTsF UBNI ODN EShR BThLEShR יב ההצילו אתם אלהי הגוים אשר שחתו אבותי את גוזן ואת חרן ורצף ובני עדן אשר בתלאשר
13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?' IG EIU MLK ChMTh UMLK ERFD UMLK LOIR SFRUIM ANO UOUA יג איו מלך חמת ומלך ארפד ומלך לעיר ספרוים הנע ועוה
14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up unto the house of IAUA, and spread it before IAUA. {P} ID UIQCh ChZQIAU ETh ASFRIM MID AMLEKIM UIQREM UIOL BITh IAUA UIFRShAU ChZQIAU LFNI IAUA {F} יד ויקח חזקיהו את הספרים מיד המלאכים ויקראם ויעל בית יהוה ויפרשהו חזקיהו לפני יהוה {פ}
15 Hezekiah prayed before IAUA, and said: 'O IAUA, the God of Israel, that sit upon the cherubim, You are the God, even You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; You have made heaven and earth. TU UIThFLL ChZQIAU LFNI IAUA UIEMR IAUA ELAI IShREL IShB AKRBIM EThA AUE AELAIM LBDK LKL MMLKUTh AERTs EThA OShITh ETh AShMIM UETh AERTs טו ויתפלל חזקיהו לפני יהוה ויאמר יהוה אלהי ישראל ישב הכרבים אתה הוא האלהים לבדך לכל ממלכות הארץ אתה עשית את השמים ואת הארץ
16 Incline Your ear, O IAUA, and hear; open Your eyes, O IAUA, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, wherewith he has sent him to taunt the living God. 17 Of a truth, IAUA, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands, IZ EMNM IAUA AChRIBU MLKI EShUR ETh AGUIM UETh ERTsM יז אמנם יהוה החריבו מלכי אשור את הגוים ואת ארצם
18 and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them. ICh UNThNU ETh ELAIAM BESh KI LE ELAIM AMA KI EM MOShA IDI EDM OTs UEBN UIEBDUM יח ונתנו את אלהיהם באש כי לא אלהים המה כי אם מעשה ידי אדם עץ ואבן ויאבדום
19 Now therefore, O IAUA our God, save You us, I beseech You, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are IAUA God, even You only.' {S} IT UOThA IAUA ELAINU AUShIONU NE MIDU UIDOU KL MMLKUTh AERTs KI EThA IAUA ELAIM LBDK {S} יט ועתה יהוה אלהינו הושיענו נא מידו וידעו כל ממלכות הארץ כי אתה יהוה אלהים לבדך {ס}
20 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying: 'Thus says IAUA, the God of Israel: Whereas you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard you. K UIShLCh IShOIAU BN EMUTs EL ChZQIAU LEMR KA EMR IAUA ELAI IShREL EShR AThFLLTh ELI EL SNChRB MLK EShUR ShMOThI כ וישלח ישעיהו בן אמוץ אל חזקיהו לאמר כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל אשר התפללת אלי אל סנחרב מלך אשור שמעתי
21 This is the word that IAUA has spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and laughed you to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you. 22 Whom have you taunted and blasphemed? and against whom have you exalted your voice? Yes, you have lifted up your eyes on high, even against the Holy One of Israel! 23 By the messengers you have taunted the Lord, and have said: With the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon; and I have cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice cypresses thereof; and I have entered into his farthest lodge, the forest of his fruitful field. 25 Have you not heard? long ago I made it, in ancient times I fashioned it; now have I brought it to pass, yes, it is done; that fortified cities should be laid waste into ruinous heaps. 26 Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it is grown up. 27 But I know your sitting down, and your going out, and your coming in, and your raging against Me. KZ UShBThK UTsEThK UBEK IDOThI UETh AThRGZK ELI כז ושבתך וצאתך ובאך ידעתי ואת התרגזך אלי
28 Because of your raging against Me, and for that your tumult is come up into Mine ears, therefore will I put My hook in your nose, and My bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came. KCh ION AThRGZK ELI UShENNK OLA BEZNI UShMThI ChChI BEFK UMThGI BShFThIK UAShBThIK BDRK EShR BETh BA כח יען התרגזך אלי ושאננך עלה באזני ושמתי חחי באפך ומתגי בשפתיך והשבתיך בדרך אשר באת בה
29 This shall be the sign unto you: you shall eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs of the same; and in the third year sow you, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof. 32 Therefore thus says IAUA concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come unto this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither shall he come before it with shield, nor cast a mound against it. 34 For I will defend this city to save it, for Mine own sake, and for My servant David's sake.' LD UGNUThI EL AOIR AZETh LAUShIOA LMONI ULMON DUD OBDI לד וגנותי אל העיר הזאת להושיעה למעני ולמען דוד עבדי
35 It came to pass that night, that the angel of IAUA went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred fourscore and five thousand; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. 37 It came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sarezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. 28 Because of your raging against Me, and for that your tumult is come up into Mine ears, therefore will I put My hook in your nose, and My bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came. 29 This shall be the sign unto you: you shall eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs of the same; and in the third year sow you, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.
