Ahaziah's Messengers Meet Elijah

2 Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick; and he sent messengers, and said unto them: 'Go, inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this sickness.' {S} B UIFL EChZIA BOD AShBKA BOLIThU EShR BShMRUN UIChL UIShLCh MLEKIM UIEMR ELAM LKU DRShU BBOL ZBUB ELAI OQRUN EM EChIA MChLI ZA {S} ב ויפל אחזיה בעד השבכה בעליתו אשר בשמרון ויחל וישלח מלאכים ויאמר אלהם לכו דרשו בבעל זבוב אלהי עקרון אם אחיה מחלי זה {ס}
3 But an angel of IAUA said to Elijah the Tishbite: 'Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them: Is it because there is no God in Israel, that you go to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? 4 Now therefore thus says IAUA: You shall not come down from the bed whither you are gone up, but shall surely die.' Elijah departed. D ULKN KA EMR IAUA AMTA EShR OLITh ShM LE ThRD MMNA KI MUTh ThMUTh UILK ELIA ד ולכן כה אמר יהוה המטה אשר עלית שם לא תרד ממנה כי מות תמות וילך אליה
5 The messengers returned unto him, and he said unto them: 'Why is it that you are returned?' A UIShUBU AMLEKIM ELIU UIEMR ELIAM MA ZA ShBThM ה וישובו המלאכים אליו ויאמר אליהם מה זה שבתם
6 They said unto him: 'There came up a man to meet us, and said unto us: Go, return unto the king that sent you, and say unto him: Thus says IAUA: Is it because there is no God in Israel, that you send to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? therefore you shall not come down from the bed whither you are gone up, but shall surely die.' 7 He said unto them: 'What manner of man was he that came up to meet you, and told you these words?' Z UIDBR ELAM MA MShFT AEISh EShR OLA LQREThKM UIDBR ELIKM ETh ADBRIM AELA ז וידבר אלהם מה משפט האיש אשר עלה לקראתכם וידבר אליכם את הדברים האלה
8 They answered him: 'He was a hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins.' He said: 'It is Elijah the Tishbite.' Ch UIEMRU ELIU EISh BOL ShOR UEZUR OUR EZUR BMThNIU UIEMR ELIA AThShBI AUE ח ויאמרו אליו איש בעל שער ואזור עור אזור במתניו ויאמר אליה התשבי הוא
9 Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. He went up to him; and, behold, he sat on the top of the hill. He spoke unto him: 'O man of God, the king has said: Come down.' T UIShLCh ELIU ShR ChMShIM UChMShIU UIOL ELIU UANA IShB OL RESh AAR UIDBR ELIU EISh AELAIM AMLK DBR RDA ט וישלח אליו שר חמשים וחמשיו ויעל אליו והנה ישב על ראש ההר וידבר אליו איש האלהים המלך דבר רדה
10 Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty: 'If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty.' There came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. 11 Again he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. He answered and said unto him: 'O man of God, thus has the king said: Come down quickly.' IE UIShB UIShLCh ELIU ShR ChMShIM EChR UChMShIU UION UIDBR ELIU EISh AELAIM KA EMR AMLK MARA RDA יא וישב וישלח אליו שר חמשים אחר וחמשיו ויען וידבר אליו איש האלהים כה אמר המלך מהרה רדה
12 Elijah answered and said unto them: 'If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty.' The fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. 13 Again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. The third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him: 'O man of God, I pray you, let my life, and the life of these fifty your servants, be precious in your sight. 14 Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and consumed the two former captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my life be precious in your sight' {S} ID ANA IRDA ESh MN AShMIM UThEKL ETh ShNI ShRI AChMShIM AREShNIM UETh ChMShIAM UOThA ThIQR NFShI BOINIK {S} יד הנה ירדה אש מן השמים ותאכל את שני שרי החמשים הראשנים ואת חמשיהם ועתה תיקר נפשי בעיניך {ס}
15 The angel of IAUA said unto Elijah: 'Go down with him; be not afraid of him.' He arose, and went down with him unto the king. TU UIDBR MLEK IAUA EL ELIAU RD EUThU EL ThIRE MFNIU UIQM UIRD EUThU EL AMLK טו וידבר מלאך יהוה אל אליהו רד אותו אל תירא מפניו ויקם וירד אותו אל המלך
16 He said unto him: 'Thus says IAUA: Forasmuch as you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? therefore you shall not come down from the bed whether you are gone up, but shall surely die.' 17 So he died according to the word of IAUA which Elijah had spoken. Ahaziah's Messengers Meet Elijah

10 Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty: 'If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty.' There came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. 11 Again he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. He answered and said unto him: 'O man of God, thus has the king said: Come down quickly.' 12 Elijah answered and said unto them: 'If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty.' The fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
