Asa Succeeds Abijah in Judah | ||||
| 1 Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of IAUA his God; | E UIOSh ESE ATUB UAIShR BOINI IAUA ELAIU | א ויעש אסא הטוב והישר בעיני יהוה אלהיו | ||
| 2 for he took away the strange altars, and the high places, and broke down the pillars, and hewed down the Asherim; | B UISR ETh-MZBChUTh ANKR UABMUTh UIShBR ETh-AMTsBUTh UIGDO ETh-AEShRIM | ב ויסר את-מזבחות הנכר והבמות וישבר את-המצבות ויגדע את-האשרים | ||
| 3 and commanded Judah to seek IAUA, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment. | G UIEMR LIAUDA LDRUSh ETh-IAUA ELAI EBUThIAM ULOShUTh AThURA UAMTsUA | ג ויאמר ליהודה לדרוש את-יהוה אלהי אבותיהם ולעשות התורה והמצוה | ||
| 4 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images; and the kingdom was quiet before him. | D UISR MKL-ORI IAUDA ETh-ABMUTh UETh-AChMNIM UThShQT AMMLKA LFNIU | ד ויסר מכל-ערי יהודה את-הבמות ואת-החמנים ותשקט הממלכה לפניו | ||
| 5 He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years; because IAUA had given him rest. | A UIBN ORI MTsURA BIAUDA KI-ShQTA AERTs UEIN-OMU MLChMA BShNIM AELA KI-ANICh IAUA LU | ה ויבן ערי מצורה ביהודה כי-שקטה הארץ ואין-עמו מלחמה בשנים האלה כי-הניח יהוה לו | ||
| 6 For he said to Judah: 'Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars; the land is yet before us, because we have sought IAUA our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.' So they built and prospered. | U UIEMR LIAUDA NBNA ETh-AORIM AELA UNSB ChUMA UMGDLIM DLThIM UBRIChIM OUDNU AERTs LFNINU KI DRShNU ETh-IAUA ELAINU DRShNU UINCh LNU MSBIB UIBNU UITsLIChU | ו ויאמר ליהודה נבנה את-הערים האלה ונסב חומה ומגדלים דלתים ובריחים עודנו הארץ לפנינו כי דרשנו את-יהוה אלהינו דרשנו וינח לנו מסביב ויבנו ויצליחו | ||

| 8 There came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and he came to Mareshah. | Ch UITsE ELIAM ZRCh AKUShI BChIL ELF ELFIM UMRKBUTh ShLSh MEUTh UIBE OD-MRShA | ח ויצא אליהם זרח הכושי בחיל אלף אלפים ומרכבות שלש מאות ויבא עד-מרשה | ||
| 9 Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephath at Mareshah. | T UITsE ESE LFNIU UIORKU MLChMA BGIE TsFThA LMRShA | ט ויצא אסא לפניו ויערכו מלחמה בגיא צפתה למרשה | ||
| 10 Asa cried to IAUA his God, and said: 'IAUA, there is none beside You to help, between the mighty and him that has no strength; help us, O IAUA our God; for we rely on You, and in Your name are we come against this multitude. You are IAUA our God; let not man prevail against You.' | I UIQRE ESE EL-IAUA ELAIU UIEMR IAUA EIN-OMK LOZR BIN RB LEIN KCh OZRNU IAUA ELAINU KI-OLIK NShONU UBShMK BENU OL-AAMUN AZA IAUA ELAINU EThA EL-IOTsR OMK ENUSh | י ויקרא אסא אל-יהוה אלהיו ויאמר יהוה אין-עמך לעזר בין רב לאין כח עזרנו יהוה אלהינו כי-עליך נשענו ובשמך באנו על-ההמון הזה יהוה אלהינו אתה אל-יעצר עמך אנוש | ||
| 11 So IAUA smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled. | IE UIGF IAUA ETh-AKUShIM LFNI ESE ULFNI IAUDA UINSU AKUShIM | יא ויגף יהוה את-הכושים לפני אסא ולפני יהודה וינסו הכושים | ||
| 12 Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerar; and there fell of the Ethiopians so that none remained alive; for they were shattered before IAUA, and before His host; and they carried away very much booty. | IB UIRDFM ESE UAOM EShR-OMU OD-LGRR UIFL MKUShIM LEIN LAM MChIA KI-NShBRU LFNI-IAUA ULFNI MChNAU UIShEU ShLL ARBA MED | יב וירדפם אסא והעם אשר-עמו עד-לגרר ויפל מכושים לאין להם מחיה כי-נשברו לפני-יהוה ולפני מחנהו וישאו שלל הרבה מאד | ||
