Rehoboam Reigns over Judah and Builds Cities | ||||
| 1 When Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom back to Rehoboam. | E UIBE RChBOM IRUShLM UIQAL ETh-BITh IAUDA UBNIMN MEA UShMUNIM ELF BChUR OShA MLChMA LALChM OM-IShREL LAShIB ETh-AMMLKA LRChBOM | א ויבא רחבעם ירושלם ויקהל את-בית יהודה ובנימן מאה ושמונים אלף בחור עשה מלחמה להלחם עם-ישראל להשיב את-הממלכה לרחבעם | ||
| 2 But the word of IAUA came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying: | B UIAI DBR-IAUA EL-ShMOIAU EISh-AELAIM LEMR | ב ויהי דבר-יהוה אל-שמעיהו איש-האלהים לאמר | ||
| 3 'Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying: | G EMR EL-RChBOM BN-ShLMA MLK IAUDA UEL KL-IShREL BIAUDA UBNIMN LEMR | ג אמר אל-רחבעם בן-שלמה מלך יהודה ואל כל-ישראל ביהודה ובנימן לאמר | ||
| 4 Thus says IAUA: You shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren; return every man to his house, for this thing is of Me.' So they hearkened to the words of IAUA, and returned from going against Jeroboam. | D KA EMR IAUA LE-ThOLU ULE-ThLChMU OM-EChIKM ShUBU EISh LBIThU KI METhI NAIA ADBR AZA UIShMOU ETh-DBRI IAUA UIShBU MLKTh EL-IRBOM | ד כה אמר יהוה לא-תעלו ולא-תלחמו עם-אחיכם שובו איש לביתו כי מאתי נהיה הדבר הזה וישמעו את-דברי יהוה וישבו מלכת אל-ירבעם | ||
| 5 Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah. | A UIShB RChBOM BIRUShLM UIBN ORIM LMTsUR BIAUDA | ה וישב רחבעם בירושלם ויבן ערים למצור ביהודה | ||
| 6 He built even Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa, | U UIBN ETh-BITh-LChM UETh-OITM UETh-ThQUO | ו ויבן את-בית-לחם ואת-עיטם ואת-תקוע | ||
| 7 and Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam, | Z UETh-BITh-TsUR UETh-ShUKU UETh-ODLM | ז ואת-בית-צור ואת-שוכו ואת-עדלם | ||
| 8 and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph, | Ch UETh-GTh UETh-MRShA UETh-ZIF | ח ואת-גת ואת-מרשה ואת-זיף | ||
| 9 and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah, | T UETh-EDURIM UETh-LKISh UETh-OZQA | ט ואת-אדורים ואת-לכיש ואת-עזקה | ||
| 10 and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities. | I UETh-TsROA UETh-EILUN UETh-ChBRUN EShR BIAUDA UBBNIMN ORI MTsRUTh | י ואת-צרעה ואת-אילון ואת-חברון אשר ביהודה ובבנימן ערי מצרות | ||
| 11 He fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and oil and wine. | IE UIChZQ ETh-AMTsURUTh UIThN BAM NGIDIM UETsRUTh MEKL UShMN UIIN | יא ויחזק את-המצורות ויתן בהם נגידים ואצרות מאכל ושמן ויין | ||
| 12 In every city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. Judah and Benjamin adhered to him. | IB UBKL-OIR UOIR TsNUTh URMChIM UIChZQM LARBA MED UIAI-LU IAUDA UBNIMN | יב ובכל-עיר ועיר צנות ורמחים ויחזקם להרבה מאד ויהי-לו יהודה ובנימן | ||
| 13 The priests and the Levites that were in all Israel presented themselves to him out of all their border. | IG UAKANIM UALUIM EShR BKL-IShREL AThITsBU OLIU MKL-GBULM | יג והכהנים והלוים אשר בכל-ישראל התיצבו עליו מכל-גבולם | ||
| 14 For the Levites left their open land and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem; for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest's office to IAUA; | ID KI-OZBU ALUIM ETh-MGRShIAM UEChZThM UILKU LIAUDA ULIRUShLM KI-AZNIChM IRBOM UBNIU MKAN LIAUA | יד כי-עזבו הלוים את-מגרשיהם ואחזתם וילכו ליהודה ולירושלם כי-הזניחם ירבעם ובניו מכהן ליהוה | ||
| 15 and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the satyrs, and for the calves which he had made. | TU UIOMD-LU KANIM LBMUTh ULShOIRIM ULOGLIM EShR OShA | טו ויעמד-לו כהנים לבמות ולשעירים ולעגלים אשר עשה | ||
| 16 After them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek IAUA, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to IAUA, the God of their fathers. | TZ UEChRIAM MKL ShBTI IShREL ANThNIM ETh-LBBM LBQSh ETh-IAUA ELAI IShREL BEU IRUShLM LZBUCh LIAUA ELAI EBUThIAM | טז ואחריהם מכל שבטי ישראל הנתנים את-לבבם לבקש את-יהוה אלהי ישראל באו ירושלם לזבוח ליהוה אלהי אבותיהם | ||
| 17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon. | IZ UIChZQU ETh-MLKUTh IAUDA UIEMTsU ETh-RChBOM BN-ShLMA LShNIM ShLUSh KI ALKU BDRK DUID UShLMA LShNIM ShLUSh | יז ויחזקו את-מלכות יהודה ויאמצו את-רחבעם בן-שלמה לשנים שלוש כי הלכו בדרך דויד ושלמה לשנים שלוש | ||
| 18 Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse; | ICh UIQCh-LU RChBOM EShA ETh-MChLTh BN- (BTh-) IRIMUTh BN-DUID EBIAIL BTh-ELIEB BN-IShI | יח ויקח-לו רחבעם אשה את-מחלת בן- (בת-) ירימות בן-דויד אביהיל בת-אליאב בן-ישי | ||
| 19 and she bore him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham. | IT UThLD LU BNIM ETh-IOUSh UETh-ShMRIA UETh-ZAM | יט ותלד לו בנים את-יעוש ואת-שמריה ואת-זהם | ||
| 20 After her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith. | K UEChRIA LQCh ETh-MOKA BTh-EBShLUM UThLD LU ETh-EBIA UETh-OThI UETh-ZIZE UETh-ShLMITh | כ ואחריה לקח את-מעכה בת-אבשלום ותלד לו את-אביה ואת-עתי ואת-זיזא ואת-שלמית | ||
| 21 Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines--for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begot twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters. | KE UIEAB RChBOM ETh-MOKA BTh-EBShLUM MKL-NShIU UFILGShIU KI NShIM ShMUNA-OShRA NShE UFILGShIM ShShIM UIULD OShRIM UShMUNA BNIM UShShIM BNUTh | כא ויאהב רחבעם את-מעכה בת-אבשלום מכל-נשיו ופילגשיו כי נשים שמונה-עשרה נשא ופילגשים ששים ויולד עשרים ושמונה בנים וששים בנות | ||
| 22 Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, even the prince among his brethren; for he was minded to make him king. | KB UIOMD LRESh RChBOM ETh-EBIA BN-MOKA LNGID BEChIU KI LAMLIKU | כב ויעמד לראש רחבעם את-אביה בן-מעכה לנגיד באחיו כי להמליכו | ||
| 23 He dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city; and he gave them victual in abundance.
