Deliverance from the Philistines
1 The men of Kiriath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of IAUA, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of IAUA. 2 It came to pass, from the day that the ark abode in Kiriath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years; and all the house of Israel yearned after IAUA. 3 Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying: 'If you do return to IAUA with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to IAUA, and serve Him only; and He will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.' 4 Then the children of Israel did put away the Baalim and the Ashtaroth, and served IAUA only. D UISIRU BNI IShREL ETh-ABOLIM UETh-AOShThRTh UIOBDU ETh-IAUA LBDU ד ויסירו בני ישראל את-הבעלים ואת-העשתרת ויעבדו את-יהוה לבדו
5 Samuel said: 'Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you to IAUA.' A UIEMR ShMUEL QBTsU ETh-KL-IShREL AMTsFThA UEThFLL BODKM EL-IAUA ה ויאמר שמואל קבצו את-כל-ישראל המצפתה ואתפלל בעדכם אל-יהוה
6 They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before IAUA, and fasted on that day, and said there: 'We have sinned against IAUA.' Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah. 7 When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines. 8 The children of Israel said to Samuel: 'Cease not to cry to IAUA our God for us, that He save us out of the hand of the Philistines.' Ch UIEMRU BNI-IShREL EL-ShMUEL EL-ThChRSh MMNU MZOQ EL-IAUA ELAINU UIShONU MID FLShThIM ח ויאמרו בני-ישראל אל-שמואל אל-תחרש ממנו מזעק אל-יהוה אלהינו וישענו מיד פלשתים
9 Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt-offering to IAUA; and Samuel cried to IAUA for Israel; and IAUA answered him. T UIQCh ShMUEL TLA ChLB EChD UIOLA (UIOLAU) OULA KLIL LIAUA UIZOQ ShMUEL EL-IAUA BOD IShREL UIONAU IAUA ט ויקח שמואל טלה חלב אחד ויעלה (ויעלהו) עולה כליל ליהוה ויזעק שמואל אל-יהוה בעד ישראל ויענהו יהוה
10 As Samuel was offering up the burnt-offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but IAUA thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten down before Israel. I UIAI ShMUEL MOLA AOULA UFLShThIM NGShU LMLChMA BIShREL UIROM IAUA BQUL-GDUL BIUM AAUE OL-FLShThIM UIAMM UINGFU LFNI IShREL י ויהי שמואל מעלה העולה ופלשתים נגשו למלחמה בישראל וירעם יהוה בקול-גדול ביום ההוא על-פלשתים ויהמם וינגפו לפני ישראל
11 The men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Beth-car. IE UITsEU ENShI IShREL MN-AMTsFA UIRDFU ETh-FLShThIM UIKUM OD-MThChTh LBITh KR יא ויצאו אנשי ישראל מן-המצפה וירדפו את-פלשתים ויכום עד-מתחת לבית כר
12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying: 'Hitherto has IAUA helped us.' IB UIQCh ShMUEL EBN EChTh UIShM BIN-AMTsFA UBIN AShN UIQRE ETh-ShMA EBN AOZR UIEMR OD-ANA OZRNU IAUA יב ויקח שמואל אבן אחת וישם בין-המצפה ובין השן ויקרא את-שמה אבן העזר ויאמר עד-הנה עזרנו יהוה
13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more within the border of Israel; and the hand of IAUA was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. 14 The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and the border thereof did Israel deliver out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites. 16 He went from year to year in circuit to Beth-el, and Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places. TZ UALK MDI ShNA BShNA USBB BITh-EL UAGLGL UAMTsFA UShFT ETh-IShREL ETh KL-AMQUMUTh AELA טז והלך מדי שנה בשנה וסבב בית-אל והגלגל והמצפה ושפט את-ישראל את כל-המקומות האלה
17 His return was to Ramah, for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and he built there an altar to IAUA. IZ UThShBThU ARMThA KI-ShM BIThU UShM ShFT ETh-IShREL UIBN-ShM MZBCh LIAUA יז ותשבתו הרמתה כי-שם ביתו ושם שפט את-ישראל ויבן-שם מזבח ליהוה

Deliverance from the Philistines
