David Spares Saul's Life
1 It came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying: 'Behold, David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.' E UIAI KEShR ShB ShEUL MEChRI FLShThIM UIGDU LU LEMR ANA DUD BMDBR OIN GDI א ויהי כאשר שב שאול מאחרי פלשתים ויגדו לו לאמר הנה דוד במדבר עין גדי
2 Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the rocks of the wild goats. B UIQCh ShEUL ShLShTh ELFIM EISh BChUR MKL-IShREL UILK LBQSh ETh-DUD UENShIU OL-FNI TsURI AIOLIM ב ויקח שאול שלשת אלפים איש בחור מכל-ישראל וילך לבקש את-דוד ואנשיו על-פני צורי היעלים
3 He came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet. Now David and his men were sitting in the innermost parts of the cave. 4 The men of David said to him: 'Behold the day in which IAUA has said to you: Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.' Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily. 5 It came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt. A UIAI EChRI-KN UIK LB-DUD EThU OL EShR KRTh ETh-KNF EShR LShEUL ה ויהי אחרי-כן ויך לב-דוד אתו על אשר כרת את-כנף אשר לשאול
6 He said to his men: 'IAUA forbid it me, that I should do this thing to my lord, IAUA's anointed, to put forth my hand against him, seeing he is IAUA's anointed.' 8 David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying: 'My lord the king.' When Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and prostrated himself. 9 David said to Saul: 'Wherefore listen you to men's words, saying: Behold, David seeks your hurt? T UIEMR DUD LShEUL LMA ThShMO ETh-DBRI EDM LEMR ANA DUD MBQSh ROThK ט ויאמר דוד לשאול למה תשמע את-דברי אדם לאמר הנה דוד מבקש רעתך
10 Behold, this day your eyes have seen how that IAUA had delivered you to-day into my hand in the cave; and some bade me kill you; but mine eye spared you; and I said: I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is IAUA's anointed. 11 Moreover, my father, see, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and killed you not, know you and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against you, though you lay wait for my soul to take it. 14 After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost you pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea. ID EChRI MI ITsE MLK IShREL EChRI MI EThA RDF EChRI KLB MTh EChRI FROSh EChD יד אחרי מי יצא מלך ישראל אחרי מי אתה רדף אחרי כלב מת אחרי פרעש אחד
15 IAUA therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.' TU UAIA IAUA LDIN UShFT BINI UBINK UIRE UIRB ETh-RIBI UIShFTNI MIDK טו והיה יהוה לדין ושפט ביני ובינך וירא וירב את-ריבי וישפטני מידך
16 It came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said: 'Is this your voice, my son David?' Saul lifted up his voice, and wept. 17 He said to David: 'You are more righteous than I; for you have rendered to me good, whereas I have rendered to you evil. IZ UIEMR EL-DUD TsDIQ EThA MMNI KI EThA GMLThNI ATUBA UENI GMLThIK AROA יז ויאמר אל-דוד צדיק אתה ממני כי אתה גמלתני הטובה ואני גמלתיך הרעה
18 You have declared this day how that you have dealt well with me; forasmuch as when IAUA had delivered me up into your hand, you didst not kill me. 19 For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore IAUA reward you good for that which you have done to me this day. 20 Now, behold, I know that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand. K UOThA ANA IDOThI KI MLK ThMLUK UQMA BIDK MMLKTh IShREL כ ועתה הנה ידעתי כי מלך תמלוך וקמה בידך ממלכת ישראל
21 Swear now therefore to me by IAUA, that you will not cut off my seed after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father's house.' KE UOThA AShBOA LI BIAUA EM-ThKRITh ETh-ZROI EChRI UEM-ThShMID ETh-ShMI MBITh EBI כא ועתה השבעה לי ביהוה אם-תכרית את-זרעי אחרי ואם-תשמיד את-שמי מבית אבי
