Goliath's Challenge

15 Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Beth-lehem.--   TU UDUD ALK UShB MOL ShEUL LROUTh ETh-TsEN EBIU BITh-LChM   טו ודוד הלך ושב מעל שאול לרעות את-צאן אביו בית-לחם
16 The Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.   TZ UIGSh AFLShThI AShKM UAORB UIThITsB ERBOIM IUM   טז ויגש הפלשתי השכם והערב ויתיצב ארבעים יום
17 Jesse said to David his son: 'Take now for your brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brethren.   IZ UIEMR IShI LDUD BNU QCh-NE LEChIK EIFTh AQLIE AZA UOShRA LChM AZA UARTs AMChNA LEChIK   יז ויאמר ישי לדוד בנו קח-נא לאחיך איפת הקליא הזה ועשרה לחם הזה והרץ המחנה לאחיך

21 Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.   KE UThORK IShREL UFLShThIM MORKA LQRETh MORKA   כא ותערך ישראל ופלשתים מערכה לקראת מערכה
22 David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brethren.   KB UITSh DUD ETh-AKLIM MOLIU OL-ID ShUMR AKLIM UIRTs AMORKA UIBE UIShEL LEChIU LShLUM   כב ויטש דוד את-הכלים מעליו על-יד שומר הכלים וירץ המערכה ויבא וישאל לאחיו לשלום

28 Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said: 'Why are you come down? and with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? 31 When the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he was taken to him.   LE UIShMOU ADBRIM EShR DBR DUD UIGDU LFNI-ShEUL UIQChAU   לא וישמעו הדברים אשר דבר דוד ויגדו לפני-שאול ויקחהו
32 David said to Saul: 'Let no man's heart fail within him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.'   LB UIEMR DUD EL-ShEUL EL-IFL LB-EDM OLIU OBDK ILK UNLChM OM-AFLShThI AZA   לב ויאמר דוד אל-שאול אל-יפל לב-אדם עליו עבדך ילך ונלחם עם-הפלשתי הזה

34 David said to Saul: 'Your servant kept his father's sheep; and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock,   LD UIEMR DUD EL-ShEUL ROA AIA OBDK LEBIU BTsEN UBE AERI UETh-ADUB UNShE ShA MAODR   לד ויאמר דוד אל-שאול רעה היה עבדך לאביו בצאן ובא הארי ואת-הדוב ונשא שה מהעדר
35 I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth; and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.   LA UITsEThI EChRIU UAKThIU UATsLThI MFIU UIQM OLI UAChZQThI BZQNU UAKThIU UAMIThIU   לה ויצאתי אחריו והכתיו והצלתי מפיו ויקם עלי והחזקתי בזקנו והכתיו והמיתיו

37 David said: 'IAUA that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.' 38 Saul clad David with his apparel, and he put a helmet of brass on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.   LCh UILBSh ShEUL ETh-DUD MDIU UNThN QUBO NChShTh OL-REShU UILBSh EThU ShRIUN   לח וילבש שאול את-דוד מדיו ונתן קובע נחשת על-ראשו וילבש אתו שריון
39 David girded his sword on his apparel, and he essayed to go[, but could not]; for he had not tried it. David said to Saul: 'I cannot go with these; for I have not tried them.' 41 The Philistine came nearer and nearer to David; and the man that bore the shield went before him.   ME UILK AFLShThI ALK UQRB EL-DUD UAEISh NShE ATsNA LFNIU   מא וילך הפלשתי הלך וקרב אל-דוד והאיש נשא הצנה לפניו
42 When the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair countenance.   MB UIBT AFLShThI UIREA ETh-DUD UIBZAU KI-AIA NOR UEDMNI OM-IFA MREA   מב ויבט הפלשתי ויראה את-דוד ויבזהו כי-היה נער ואדמני עם-יפה מראה
43 The Philistine said to David: 'Am I a dog, that you come to me with staves?' The Philistine cursed David by his god.   MG UIEMR AFLShThI EL-DUD AKLB ENKI KI-EThA BE-ELI BMQLUTh UIQLL AFLShThI ETh-DUD BELAIU   מג ויאמר הפלשתי אל-דוד הכלב אנכי כי-אתה בא-אלי במקלות ויקלל הפלשתי את-דוד באלהיו
44 The Philistine said to David: 'Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the flying creatures of the heavens, and to the beasts of the field.'   MD UIEMR AFLShThI EL-DUD LKA ELI UEThNA ETh-BShRK LOUF AShMIM ULBAMTh AShDA   מד ויאמר הפלשתי אל-דוד לכה אלי ואתנה את-בשרך לעוף השמים ולבהמת השדה
45 Then said David to the Philistine: 'You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to you in the name of IAUA of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted.   MA UIEMR DUD EL-AFLShThI EThA BE ELI BChRB UBChNITh UBKIDUN UENKI BE-ELIK BShM IAUA TsBEUTh ELAI MORKUTh IShREL EShR ChRFTh   מה ויאמר דוד אל-הפלשתי אתה בא אלי בחרב ובחנית ובכידון ואנכי בא-אליך בשם יהוה צבאות אלהי מערכות ישראל אשר חרפת
46 This day will IAUA deliver you into my hand; and I will smite you, and take your head from off you; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day to the flying creatures of the heavens, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel;   MU AIUM AZA ISGRK IAUA BIDI UAKIThK UASRThI ETh-REShK MOLIK UNThThI FGR MChNA FLShThIM AIUM AZA LOUF AShMIM ULChITh AERTs UIDOU KL-AERTs KI ISh ELAIM LIShREL   מו היום הזה יסגרך יהוה בידי והכיתך והסרתי את-ראשך מעליך ונתתי פגר מחנה פלשתים היום הזה לעוף השמים ולחית הארץ וידעו כל-הארץ כי יש אלהים לישראל
47 and that all this assembly may know that IAUA saves not with sword and spear; for the battle is IAUA'S, and He will give you into our hand.'   MZ UIDOU KL-AQAL AZA KI-LE BChRB UBChNITh IAUShIO IAUA KI LIAUA AMLChMA UNThN EThKM BIDNU   מז וידעו כל-הקהל הזה כי-לא בחרב ובחנית יהושיע יהוה כי ליהוה המלחמה ונתן אתכם בידנו
48 It came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.   MCh UAIA KI-QM AFLShThI UILK UIQRB LQRETh DUD UIMAR DUD UIRTs AMORKA LQRETh AFLShThI   מח והיה כי-קם הפלשתי וילך ויקרב לקראת דוד וימהר דוד וירץ המערכה לקראת הפלשתי
49 David put his hand in his bag, and took there a stone, and slung it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.   MT UIShLCh DUD ETh-IDU EL-AKLI UIQCh MShM EBN UIQLO UIK ETh-AFLShThI EL-MTsChU UThTBO AEBN BMTsChU UIFL OL-FNIU ERTsA   מט וישלח דוד את-ידו אל-הכלי ויקח משם אבן ויקלע ויך את-הפלשתי אל-מצחו ותטבע האבן במצחו ויפל על-פניו ארצה
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.   N UIChZQ DUD MN-AFLShThI BQLO UBEBN UIK ETh-AFLShThI UIMThAU UChRB EIN BID-DUD   נ ויחזק דוד מן-הפלשתי בקלע ובאבן ויך את-הפלשתי וימתהו וחרב אין ביד-דוד
51 David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. 52 The men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until you come to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. 53 The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their camp.   NG UIShBU BNI IShREL MDLQ EChRI FLShThIM UIShSU ETh-MChNIAM   נג וישבו בני ישראל מדלק אחרי פלשתים וישסו את-מחניהם
54 David took the head of the philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.   ND UIQCh DUD ETh-RESh AFLShThI UIBEAU IRUShLM UETh-KLIU ShM BEALU   נד ויקח דוד את-ראש הפלשתי ויבאהו ירושלם ואת-כליו שם באהלו
55 When Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the host: 'Abner, whose son is this youth?'
