| 4 The king of Israel answered and said: 'It is according to your saying, my lord, O king: I am your, and all that I have.' | D UION MLK-IShREL UIEMR KDBRK EDNI AMLK LK ENI UKL-EShR-LI | ד ויען מלך-ישראל ויאמר כדברך אדני המלך לך אני וכל-אשר-לי | ||
| 5 The messengers came again, and said: 'Thus speaks Ben-hadad, saying: I sent indeed to you, saying: You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children; | A UIShBU AMLEKIM UIEMRU KA-EMR BN-ADD LEMR KI-ShLChThI ELIK LEMR KSFK UZABK UNShIK UBNIK LI ThThN | ה וישבו המלאכים ויאמרו כה-אמר בן-הדד לאמר כי-שלחתי אליך לאמר כספך וזהבך ונשיך ובניך לי תתן | ||
| 6 but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in your eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.' | U KI EM-KOTh MChR EShLCh ETh-OBDI ELIK UChFShU ETh-BIThK UETh BThI OBDIK UAIA KL-MChMD OINIK IShIMU BIDM ULQChU | ו כי אם-כעת מחר אשלח את-עבדי אליך וחפשו את-ביתך ואת בתי עבדיך והיה כל-מחמד עיניך ישימו בידם ולקחו | ||

| 8 All the elders and all the people said to him: 'Hearken you not, neither consent.' | Ch UIEMRU ELIU KL-AZQNIM UKL-AOM EL-ThShMO ULUE ThEBA | ח ויאמרו אליו כל-הזקנים וכל-העם אל-תשמע ולוא תאבה | ||
| 9 Wherefore he said to the messengers of Ben-hadad: 'Tell my lord the king: All that you didst send for to your servant at the first I will do; but this thing I may not do.' | 10 Ben-hadad sent to him, and said: 'The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.' | I UIShLCh ELIU BN-ADD UIEMR KA-IOShUN LI ELAIM UKA IUSFU EM-IShFQ OFR ShMRUN LShOLIM LKL-AOM EShR BRGLI | י וישלח אליו בן-הדד ויאמר כה-יעשון לי אלהים וכה יוספו אם-ישפק עפר שמרון לשעלים לכל-העם אשר ברגלי | ||
| 11 The king of Israel answered and said: 'Tell him: Let not him that puts on his armour boast himself as he that puts it off.' | IE UION MLK-IShREL UIEMR DBRU EL-IThALL ChGR KMFThCh | יא ויען מלך-ישראל ויאמר דברו אל-יתהלל חגר כמפתח | ||
| 12 It came to pass, when [Ben-hadad] heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the booths, that he said to his servants: 'Set yourselves in array.' | 14 Ahab said: 'By whom?' He said: 'Thus says IAUA: By the young men of the princes of the provinces.' Then he said: 'Who shall begin the battle?' | 16 They went out at noon. | 17 The young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-hadad sent out, and they told him, saying: 'There are men come out from Samaria.' | IZ UITsEU NORI ShRI AMDINUTh BREShNA UIShLCh BN-ADD UIGIDU LU LEMR ENShIM ITsEU MShMRUN | יז ויצאו נערי שרי המדינות בראשנה וישלח בן-הדד ויגידו לו לאמר אנשים יצאו משמרון | ||
| 18 He said: 'Whether they are come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they are come out for war, take them alive.' | ICh UIEMR EM-LShLUM ITsEU ThFShUM ChIIM UEM LMLChMA ITsEU ChIIM ThFShUM | יח ויאמר אם-לשלום יצאו תפשום חיים ואם למלחמה יצאו חיים תפשום | ||
| 19 So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them. | IT UELA ITsEU MN-AOIR NORI ShRI AMDINUTh UAChIL EShR EChRIAM | יט ואלה יצאו מן-העיר נערי שרי המדינות והחיל אשר אחריהם | ||
| 20 They slew every one his man; and the Arameans fled, and Israel pursued them; and Ben-hadad the king of Aram escaped on a horse with horsemen. | K UIKU EISh EIShU UINSU ERM UIRDFM IShREL UIMLT BN-ADD MLK ERM OL-SUS UFRShIM | כ ויכו איש אישו וינסו ארם וירדפם ישראל וימלט בן-הדד מלך ארם על-סוס ופרשים | ||
| 21 The king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Arameans with a great slaughter. | KE UITsE MLK IShREL UIK ETh-ASUS UETh-ARKB UAKA BERM MKA GDULA | כא ויצא מלך ישראל ויך את-הסוס ואת-הרכב והכה בארם מכה גדולה | ||
| 22 The prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him: 'Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do; for at the return of the year the king of Aram will come up against you.' | KB UIGSh ANBIE EL-MLK IShREL UIEMR LU LK AThChZQ UDO UREA ETh EShR-ThOShA KI LThShUBTh AShNA MLK ERM OLA OLIK | כב ויגש הנביא אל-מלך ישראל ויאמר לו לך התחזק ודע וראה את אשר-תעשה כי לתשובת השנה מלך ארם עלה עליך | ||
| 23 The servants of the king of Aram said to him: 'Their God is a God of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. | KG UOBDI MLK-ERM EMRU ELIU ELAI ARIM ELAIAM OL-KN ChZQU MMNU UEULM NLChM EThM BMIShUR EM-LE NChZQ MAM | כג ועבדי מלך-ארם אמרו אליו אלהי הרים אלהיהם על-כן חזקו ממנו ואולם נלחם אתם במישור אם-לא נחזק מהם | ||
| 24 Do this thing: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put governors in their room: | KD UETh-ADBR AZA OShA ASR AMLKIM EISh MMQMU UShIM FChUTh ThChThIAM | כד ואת-הדבר הזה עשה הסר המלכים איש ממקמו ושים פחות תחתיהם | ||
| 25 and number you an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot; and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.' | 26 It came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad mustered the Arameans, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel. | KU UIAI LThShUBTh AShNA UIFQD BN-ADD ETh-ERM UIOL EFQA LMLChMA OM-IShREL | כו ויהי לתשובת השנה ויפקד בן-הדד את-ארם ויעל אפקה למלחמה עם-ישראל | ||
| 27 The children of Israel were mustered, and were victualled, and went against them; and the children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Arameans filled the country. | KZ UBNI IShREL AThFQDU UKLKLU UILKU LQREThM UIChNU BNI-IShREL NGDM KShNI ChShFI OZIM UERM MLEU ETh-AERTs | כז ובני ישראל התפקדו וכלכלו וילכו לקראתם ויחנו בני-ישראל נגדם כשני חשפי עזים וארם מלאו את-הארץ | ||
| 28 A man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said: 'Thus says IAUA: Because the Arameans have said: IAUA is a God of the hills, but he is not a God of the valleys; therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am IAUA.' | KCh UIGSh EISh AELAIM UIEMR EL-MLK IShREL UIEMR KA-EMR IAUA ION EShR EMRU ERM ELAI ARIM IAUA ULE-ELAI OMQIM AUE UNThThI ETh-KL-AAMUN AGDUL AZA BIDK UIDOThM KI-ENI IAUA | כח ויגש איש האלהים ויאמר אל-מלך ישראל ויאמר כה-אמר יהוה יען אשר אמרו ארם אלהי הרים יהוה ולא-אלהי עמקים הוא ונתתי את-כל-ההמון הגדול הזה בידך וידעתם כי-אני יהוה | ||
| 29 They encamped one over against the other seven days. | 30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty and seven thousand men that were left. | 32 So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said: 'Your servant Ben-hadad says: I pray you, let me live.' | 33 Now the men took it for a sign, and hastened to catch it from him; and they said: 'Your brother Ben-hadad.' Then he said: 'Go you, bring him.' | 34 [Ben-hadad] said to him: 'The cities which my father took from your father I will restore; and you shall make streets for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.' 'I[, said Ahab,] will let you go with this covenant.' | 36 Then said he to him: 'Because you have not hearkened to the voice of IAUA, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall slay you.' | 40 As your servant was busy here and there, he was gone.'
